Flood and Coast conference and expo 2021

The 2021 Flood and Coast conference and expo will take place on Hopin, a virtual event platform, which is designed to feel like an in-person event.

Each day will be fully packed with interactive sessions, live exhibition booths, and networking opportunities, with the audience addressing some of the most important issues in FCERM. Delegates will interact with speakers through the live Q&A sessions, meet with exhibitors in our live expo hall, and connect with new people through video networking.

Conference themes

Day 1 | Mon, 28 Jun: Delivering Together

Collaboration is at the heart of recent strategies and policy development on FCERM, reflecting the complexity of flooding and the range of responsible and wider stakeholder organisations. Sessions on day 1 will explore lessons and challenges from recent flood events and the compounding impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on response and recovery. How can we further build social resilience and what role can digital technologies and community support frameworks including faith networks play in doing so?

Day 2 | Tue, 29 Jun: Future skills, knowledge and tools / A nation resilient to climate change

As climate change exacerbates flood risk over coming decades we will need a range of innovations to skillsets, approaches, tools and people to manage this effectively. Through hydraulics, modelling and forecasting, as well as nature-based solutions we will showcase the latest approaches in two parallel sessions. Women in FCERM will celebrate the achievements and leadership of women in the sector and we will learn lessons from how the five nations are tackling climate change.

Day 3 | Wed, 30 Jun: Creating green and sustainable places

Optimising resilience means considering a range of sustainability factors and working these into the places we live and work, reflecting local needs and priorities and delivering them at a range of scales. Planning for this resilience and delivering it needs strong leadership, allied to robust delivery. How can we achieve this as effectively as possible, including through interventions such as property flood resilience and sustainable drainage?

Day 4 | Thu, 1 Jul: Adaptive planning and thought leadership

Adaptive planning allows local places to make the right decisions at the right time and effective planning for long-term change can lead to real transformation when thinking is done at both a policy and local community level. The next generation has new angles about the climate change adaptation priorities for COP26. If you had your moment on the stage at COP26 what would you say?

Dates: 28 June to 1 July 2021.

Location: Online.
